16 to 18 Mai 2019 in Zurich-Oerlikon
The greater Zürich area is home to well-connected instrument makers. This summer, these makers will come together again, for the second time, to showcase their work in Werkplatz Geige 2019. Following the inaugural international Violin Making Symposium of 2017, initiated by Julia van der Waerden (Zürich) and Simone Escher (Winterthur), which featured outstanding violin makers from Ireland, France, Germany, Austria USA and Switzerland, this year’s focus will be on bow making. Leaders in their field will meet together with musicians to exchange ideas about traditional methods and innovative technologies.
Workshop concerts, sound workshops and presentations will be interspersed throughout the weekend.
Werkplatz Geige 2019 will take place in the Hunziker Areal in Zürich. Renowned for its architectural and urban development achievements, the Hunziker Areal provides the ideal infrastructure for the symposium; practice rooms, accommodation and various restaurants can be found in the immediate vicinity. Public transport and a rental service for bikes guarantee a variety of connections to the city centre. The project is supported by the cooperative association: mehralswohnen.ch.
Werkplatz Geige 2019 is aimed at open-minded musicians and anyone who is interested in the craftsmanship and development of instrument making.
